Junior Development Biathlon (Jr DEVO Biathlon)

Overview
The Jr DEVO Biathlon Program at Soldier Hollow introduces youth ages 10–14 to the sport of biathlon, combining cross-country skiing with precision marksmanship. This program focuses on building a strong foundation in both skiing and shooting through a fun, supportive, and progressive approach.
Program Highlights
  • Shooting Development:
    • Athletes begin with prone shooting from a block to simplify technique and build confidence.
    • Once athletes consistently hit 4 out of 5 shots, they progress to prone shooting from a cuff.
    • Shooting remains focused on prone position until athletes advance to the SDT Biathlon Program.
  • Physical Training:
    • Cross-country skiing
    • Roller skiing
    • Running
    • Strength training
  • Participation Requirements:
    • All Jr DEVO Biathlon athletes must also be enrolled in a ski program to ensure proper development of skiing fundamentals.
    • Participants must be registered U.S. Biathlon Members.

  • Teach biathlon fundamentals in a safe and engaging environment
  • Foster physical fitness and outdoor activity
  • Prepare athletes for future competitive biathlon opportunities

Senior DEVO Biathlon – Competition Team

Overview
The Senior DEVO Biathlon Competition Team is designed for athletes ages 14–18 who are committed to mastering the fundamentals of biathlon and preparing for competitive success. This program blends focused shooting instruction with advanced physical training, offering a comprehensive pathway for athletes aiming to compete at the regional and national levels.
Program Highlights
  • Training Schedule:
    • Athletes train 2-3 days per week
    • Sessions emphasize safety, shooting fundamentals, introductory visualization, and biathlon competition readiness
  • Shooting & Physical Training:
    • Slow-fire shooting drills to build precision and consistency
    • “Combo” workouts integrating shooting with:
      • Core strength
      • Specific strength
      • Roller ski technique
  • Winter Competition & Camps:
    • Athletes compete in IMD Nordic Junior National Qualifiers with their home ski clubs
    • Opportunities to race in local and regional biathlon events
    • Support at Biathlon Junior Nationals and Senior Nationals. 
    • Participation in seasonal training camps for skill development and team building
  • Participation Requirements:
    • All athletes must also be enrolled in a ski program to support skiing development and race participation
    • All participants must be registered U.S. Biathlon Members.

Masters Biathlon Program

Soldier Hollow's master program is designed for individuals who strive for personal development within biathlon in a social setting
Soldier Hollow's master program is designed for individuals who would like a casual training environment which encourages both socialization and personal development within the sport of biathlon. The vast majority of Summer and Fall sessions will be rollerskiing and/ or jogging, whilst the Winter session will be mostly (skate) skiing. Participants are expected to provide their own ammo, rifle, and rifle tools, in addition to meeting all USBA requirements (BRSC, membership, etc.).

The Two Options: 
1. Annual Range Pass - $150, allows you to shoot at designated times and by appointment for other times.

2. Masters Club Coaching - Meet on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 pm, from June 9 - Feb 23 and work with Coach Twan on shooting and skiing fundamentals that are essential for biathlon participation. $1000 for 3 seasons or $400 per season (summer June 9-Aug 25, fall Sept 1-Nov 24, and winter Dec 8-Feb 23). Includes annual range pass.
 
Required Memberships: Annual Season Pass – Early Bird is $185, or volunteer for 8 Team SOHO youth practices and get it for free. 
All participants in Biathlon are required to have a current U.S. Biathlon Competitor License before shooting. No exceptions. You will also need to complete the Basic Rifle Safety Course through USBA to shoot on the Soldier Hollow Range. 
 
Master’s Club Perks:  
  • Access to the range upon request, assuming availability (requires USBA RSO) 
  • Additional private coaching sessions with Head Coach Twan - $100/hour 
  • Access to our Rossignol Gear Night, where you can buy equipment at wholesale prices

All participants doing Biathlon are required to have a current U.S. Biathlon Membership.
