CROSS COUNTRY

Comp
Title of program:  NORDIC COMP
 
Program description: The Comp Team is a year-round training program that focuses on building strength and endurance as well as developing technique. Skiers will train 5-6 days a week. Workouts will include running, classic and skate roller skiing, strength training, biking, agility, speed, and technique. The spring and summer training is essential to building fitness, strength and endurance. During the fall the focus shifts to building max vo2 and power. During the winter season the Comp Team members compete in local and regional races with the possibility of national and international racing. Primary races for the team are the 3 sets of IMD Junior National Qualifiers. The team will also have 2-3 dryland or on-snow training camps.
 
Recommended ages: U16, U18, U20 Age Groups (Year of Birth 2001 - 2005)
 
Ability level: Intermediate/ Advanced
 
Cost: $1,100* (September-March)
 *Camps, competitions, and biathlon are additional to program fees.
 
Program fee includes:  
Coaching, Soldier Hollow season pass, coaching at local competitions, Fit Stop membership and activities which may include running, hiking, biking, team games, strength, and swimming.

Required equipment: Classic and skate skis, boots, and poles, bounding poles, running shoes, helmet, water bottle and carrier. In addition to the gear above, we recommend that all comp athletes purchase their own classic and skate roller skiing gear by their 2nd year on the Comp team. Title of Program: NORDIC DEVO PLUS                                                            
 
Program description: The Soldier Hollow Devo Plus Team is for youth ages 12-13 who have ski experience and an interest in racing. Skiers will begin to apply and understand basic training principles of cross-country skiing and biathlon. Devo Plus fall training is a fun way to stay active during the off season, and includes activities such as hiking, agility, games, roller skiing, biathlon, running, and more. Devo Plus athletes will join with the Comp Team once/week for training through the fall and winter. Winter training begins to focus more on ski technique as well as learning to love skiing as a life-long sport.
 
Recommended ages:  U14 Age Group (Year of Birth 2007, 2008)
 
Ability Level:  Intermediate – Level 3
 
DEVO PLUS - Cost:  $550* (September-March)
 *Camps, competitions, and biathlon are additional to program fees.
 
Program fee includes:  
Coaching, access to roller skis and ski equipment, Soldier Hollow season pass, coaching at local competitions, and activities which may include running, hiking, biking, team games, strength, and swimming.

Comp Rec
​Title of Program: NORDIC COMP REC                                                            
 
Program description: The Soldier Hollow Comp Rec Team is for high school age athletes ages 15-19 who are interested in learning how to cross-country ski recreationally. Skiers will be part of the Team SoHo Comp team but will have workouts designed specifically for athletes new to the sport. They will begin to apply and understand basic training principles of cross-country skiing. Comp Devo is a fun way to stay active during the off season from Biking, XC Running, Soccer, or other warm weather sports and includes activities such as hiking, agility, games, intro to roller skiing, intro to biathlon, some light running, and more. Comp Devo athletes will join with the Comp Team. Winter training begins to focus more on ski technique as well as learning to love skiing as a life-long sport.
 
Recommended ages: U16, U18, U20 Age Groups (Year of Birth 2001 - 2005)
 
Ability Level:  Beginner / Intermediate

Kickers and gliders
​Title of Program: NORDIC KICKERS & GLIDERS                              
 
Program description: The Soldier Hollow Kickers and Gliders program is for youth ages 6-12 who have no or little ski experience. Kickers and Gliders will learn skills through games and drills on snow. This program is designed to teach the basics of skiing and instill a love for the sport. While this program functions as the introductory program for Team Soldier Hollow, athletes are separated into groups based on age and ability levels. There is no weekend race support, but athletes wishing to participate may borrow equipment as available to compete in local Citizen Series races. All equipment is provided for participants.
 
Recommended ages:  U8-U14 Age Groups (Year of Birth 2007-2013)
 
Ability Level:  Beginner – Level 1
 
KICKERS & GLIDERS - Cost:  $225* (December-March)
 
Program fee includes:  
Coaching, use of ski equipment at practices, Soldier Hollow season pass for participants.

Masters
​Title of program:  TEAM SOHO PLUS – MASTERS XC & BIA TEAM
 
Program description: The Masters XC & Biathlon Team at SoHo is a training program that focuses on aspects of XC & Biathlon for both new and experienced masters athletes. XC athletes and biathletes will train Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings while Biathletes will train Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. The XC athletes will focus on ski technique, fundamental balance drills, specific strength exercises, and race strategy. On the range, Biathletes will focus on learning firearms safety, developing strong fundamental shooting skills, and preparing for competition through “combination” training and skills development. Biathletes will also have access to ski technique, drills, strategy, etc. There will be opportunities for local racing as available. 
Program includes Red Book (re)certification, coaching, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, rifle fitting (if you own your own), access to purchase team race suits/warmups/etc, and trail/range access during team sessions. We encourage all participants to purchase an annual pass to have access for training on all other days.
 
Recommended ages: 25+
 
Ability level: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced

***No rolleskiing will be allowed with club rifles. Rifles not available for use outside of team training sessions.

BIATHLON

comp flex
​Title of program:  BIATHLON COMP FLEX
 
Program description: The Biathlon Comp Development program at Soldier Hollow is a year-round training program that focuses on all aspects of biathlon. Athletes are required to be enrolled with an area Nordic program to join. Biathletes will train two days per week with a focus on safety, developing strong shooting fundamentals, introductory visualization, and learning about biathlon competition. Workouts will include both slow-fire drills and ‘Combo’ workouts that combine shooting drills with core strength, specific strength, and/or rollerski technique. During the winter season, Comp Team athletes will compete in all IMD Nordic Junior National Qualifiers with their respective home clubs and will also have an opportunity to compete in local and regional biathlon races. There will be options for 2-3 training camps during the season.
 
Recommended ages: U14(by coach invite only), U16, U18, U20 Age Groups (Year of Birth 2001-2005)
 
Ability level: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced

There will be opportunities for local racing.
 
Recommended ages: Under 12 & Under 14 Age Groups (Year of Birth 2007 - 2010)

It is only available to athletes currently enrolled in the SoHo Comp XC program. Biathletes will train 2 days per week with a focus on safety, developing strong shooting fundamentals, introductory visualization, and learning about biathlon competition.
