The Wasatch cross country team has their home meet on the grueling trails at Soldier Hollow. I thought this year's course was especially difficult! The team did great and ski team member and Freshman Pearl Harvey took the WIN in the varsity girls!
The race continue with the Park City Invite this weekend and Region the following weekend. Photos from the past two meets. Photo credit: Ian Harvey. North America's primary xc skiing news site posted an article on Team Soldier Hollow! You might even recognize some of the skiers?!
Check it out: http://fasterskier.com/blog/article/wednesday-workout-finding-balance-with-team-soldier-hollow/ The Comp Team has been keeping busy with cross country running and skiing this fall! Most of the team is running 4 days a week but maintaining their skiing muscles with 2x a week ski practices. Today we got in a long rollerski and run combo workout. Yesterday was a cross country running race at Westlake. Sounds like the skiers did pretty well with Pearl Harvey leading the way in 6th.
Thank you to Ian Harvey and Matthew Heimburger for photos from the race! The summer is coming to an end but boy did the Devo Team have fun! Check out the photos from Coach Tricia below:
The start and finish of Stage 4 of the Tour of Utah took place at Soldier Hollow on Thursday of last week. Team Soldier Hollow, Park City Nordic, Wasatch Nordic and the U.S. Nordic Combined Team all got together for a rollerski sprint race between the start and finish. The course was from the middle of the bus loop to the stage finish line. It was a challenging yet inspiring course lined with all the banners and tents set up for the ToU. All the athletes skied a semi final and a final heat. The top finishers in each semi advanced to the A Final while the rest sorted out into the B and/or C Final. The skiers ranged in age and ability from age 12 up to Olympians in their mid 20's. It was really cool for the younger skiers to get a chance to ski with some of the best in the country! Results (we didn't time just went by heat finish place) and photos below. Awards were given to the top 3 overall and best youngster!
The Tour of Utah is coming to Soldier Hollow on Thursday!!! Please use the link below to get all the details on course, event expo, road closures and more. There will be a a rollerski race for Comp Team and older skiers, paintball biathlon, a fun bike race for kids ages 4-12 and much more.
Tour Of Utah Details HERE. The Comp Team crew is in Canmore with Coach Maurissa and guest coach and Olympian Torin Koos! They are also joining the Sun Valley Ski Team and the Park City Nordic Team for a week of hard training. I'm still waiting for more photos and updates (sounds like the crew has been keeping very busy!) but in the mean time here is a video from yesterday's skate intensity workout. The Soldier Hollow U14 skiers got a few extra workouts last week when the U14 crew from Sun Valley came down for a camp. Friday was a rollerski workout specifically focused on getting comfortable on the downhills. Soldier Hollow's rollerski loop is a great car-free place to practice some bigger downhills. Of course, it is still a little scary because falling results in roadrash even if there aren't any cars around. Luckily, everyone kept it upright and it was a very productive session. On Saturday everyone was up early for a hike up Mount Timpanogos!
The Devo Team has done Timp the past few years and is a group favorite. It was fun to be able to share the hike with a group who had never been up it! |
