Saturday, Team Soldier Hollow headed up to White Pine Nordic Center for the second Wasatch Citizen Series race of the year. 17 kids plus lots of parents and SoHo instructors raced! Plus, more of our uniforms arrived so there was even more blue and green flying around the trails!
The big wins of the day were Felix Firth in the U14 boys, Mason Heimburger in the U12 boys and Easton Boyer in the U10. Check out the full results for all the great Soldier Hollow performances! I took as many photos as I could but if anyone has some that they would like me to post email [email protected] Saturday, day two of the Jackson JNQ, was a fantastic day for Team SoHo! Adam Brown stood atop the podium again in the men's novice 3km skate race. In the 5km U16 boys Xander Burkemo improved on yesterday with a 15th place finish. Spencer Brosnahan, (who started skiing last year!) did great in his first mass start JNQ! He even decided that mass starts are more fun than he thought. In the 10km U18/U20 race Fischer Heimburger skied to 5th (2nd U18), definitely one of his best skate races ever! On the women's side Ingrid Norton skied a strong 5km race to finish 23rd. Utah had a very strong showing on the day! Fun to see so many fast skiers from our area.
Full Results here. Day one of the Jackson Junior National Qualifier, a 5k classic race, is complete! It was a great day for the young Team Soldier Hollow group. Fischer Heimburger, who is a first year U18 skier, finished 11th in the U20 race (5th U18). Xander Burkemo and Spencer Brosnahan, newcomers to the U16 category finished 17th and 46th (took a wrong turn). In the men's novice race Adam Brown continued to show that he is ready to move up to race in his age group by winning by over 1 minute! On the women's side, Ingrid Norton had a career best finish of 22nd in the U16 girls! Full results here.
Mass skate races tomorrow. Check back for results and photos! Saturday was the first Wasatch Citizen Series of the year! We were lucky to have the first classic race of the year on our home course! Petie and his crew groomed out a fun course of mostly natural snow AND one loop was 5km! How often does that happen in December?! Thanks mother nature =)
Team Soldier Hollow kicked off the year with about 20 racers and quite a few podiums! Fischer Heimburger notched a 3rd in his first year as a U18, in the U14 category Xander Burkemo sprinted it in for 3rd. Keeping the ball rolling on the men's side Felix Firth just missed first in a sprint finish for second. Rounding out the day for the boys was Easton Boyer with a win in the boys U10 category. On the women's, Sophia Burkemo and Sara Livingstone led the way with a 2nd and 3rd in the U12 category. The only win of the day was newcomer Adam Brown in the men's novice race! Full results here. There were lots of parents and Soldier Hollow coaches and ski instructors out racing as well. Great to see such a big turn out. Let's keep it up!!! The next Wasatch Citizen Race is Saturday, Dec 28, at White Pine. All skiers are welcome!!! I was able to get a few photos, see below. If anyone has any they would like to share send them to [email protected] Interested in volunteering with Youth Ski League or Charter School skiing but aren't sure how you can help? Come to volunteer training 8:30 to 10:00 on Friday Dec 13th!
We will go over how to help with equipment in the lodge, how you can help on the snow, AND we will even do an ON SNOW basic classic lesson! Never skied before? This is for you! If you have skied before and just need an orientation come by for the first half hour. We look forward to seeing you at the ski lodge on Friday =) ![]() Fun racing at the White Pine/TUNA Relays today! The race was 5k for ages 12+ and 2k for the youngesters. Skiers grouped up into 3 person teams. Leg 1 classic skied and legs 2 and 3 skate skied. To add a twist each person gets a time penalty based on age, gender, and pervious performance at the relay. Sara Livingstone, Drew Sullivan, and Josh Livingstone ended up finishing 3rd after the time adjustments! Adam Brown (in his first ski race), Jack Jarrett, and Dave Jarrett ended up toward the top of the results. The Fashion Award goes to the Heimburger Family team who raced in Hawaiian shirts! Team SoHo had a great turnout with Ingrid Norton, Spencer Brosnahan, & Xander Burkemo fielding a U16 team and Sophia Burkemo, Lauren Jackson, and coach Morgan fielding an all girls team! Results here. Remember times are all altered with a pre-calculated penalty. Team SoHo it's time to band together and let those blue and green suits lead us to victory! The U.S. Ski Team has launched a poster challenge. The posters will be displayed at Soldier Hollow (OUR HOME) during National Championships in early January.
