Dress in your favorite Beach attire but remember that you may want some long pants/sleeves for SkierX! Last weekend marked the final challenge of the season! The West Yellowstone Rendezvous, a 25km skate race. If one athlete beat Coach Morgan the team would go out for pizza. For two weeks Ingrid, Sierra, Spencer and Xander worked on their endurance with long skis and longer level 3 intervals. Come race day, all that training paid off!!! Everyone had an outstanding race! Xander finished 1st for Team SoHo (almost 2 minutes ahead of Coach Morgan) to place 5th overall, 1st in his age group!!! Spencer finished 31st, 5th in his age group. The girls skied most of the race together. Sierra pulled away in the final kilometers to take first in the 13-17 age group. Ingrid wasn't far behind in second! The highlight of the day was that EVERYONE paced really well and skied strong into the finish!!! Just to make sure everyone (except Coach Morgan) slept really well during the car ride home we got up early Sunday morning and headed into West Yellowstone National Park for a long skate ski! We were lucky to see a herd of Bison along the Madison River. Check out our photos below. According to Xander, who enjoyed his victory pizza until he couldn't eat another bite, it was "the best race of the year!!!" Last weekend 8 skiers and 2 coaches from Team Soldier Hollow, TUNA, and PC Nordic all piled into the SoHo Sprinter for a road trip/ski racing adventure (2 more joined us up there)! We drove 16 hours (over 2 days) up to Kelowna, BC, Canada for British Columbia Championships. There we met up with a pretty large Intermountain crew with skiers from Sun Valley, Boise, Bozeman, and Jackson. There were 3 fun filled days of racing at Telemark ski area (just up hill from the lovely Okanagan Lake). Full results below: Day 1 - Freestyle Mass Start Day 2 - Individual Start Classic Day 3 - Relays!!! (club teams counted for awards. We chose to do USA teams not club) Overall it was an amazing trip! The kids put together an awesome video that really sums up all the fun. |
