Ever wonder what happens at a National level training camp? Last week I (Morgan) joined Comp Team member Fischer Heimburger at the National U16 Camp. This camp was 47 of the best xc skiers under 16 years old based on results from Juinor Nationals. The camp took place in Marquette, MI, the home of the Northern Michigan University Ski Team. I went to college at NMU so I was able to provide some local knowledge on rollerski routes, cliff jumping locations, and awesome trail runs.
Here's a brief summary of the camp: Friday - Arrivals Saturday: am - Trail Run (1 hour); pm - Soccer and Strength Sunday: am - Ski walking, moosehoofs, bounding (2 hours); pm - Games, mobility and strength Monday: am - Distance double pole (hour and a half); pm - Skate Rollerski Agility and Speed (hour and a half) Tuesday: am - UpHill Run Time Trial; pm - recovery jog and beach time Wednesday: am - Trail run (hour and a half); pm - Strength Test Thursday: am - Skate Roll technique and distance(hour and a half); pm - Classic Roll sprint relay Friday: am - Over Distance (OD) trail run. 2-3 hours depending on group; pm - off Saturday: Departures Every morning prior to breakfast we also did a light jog and a stretching or ski imitation workout. These usually lasted around 20 minutes. In addition to all the training there was plenty of fun! You will have to ask Fischer for all those details. As you can see this isn't that different from what we do on a daily basis and at camps! Train hard, train smart, and have lots of fun =) Comments are closed.
